David's Nightmare Server

Post by David Webb » Thu May 30, 2013 9:56 pm

I have devised an entertaining vanilla Minecraft server setup and challenge everyone to come play it and try to beat me.
It's simple, you start out with a set of gear and food, cannot pick up anything but arrows, and must face an enhanced number of beefed up mobs.
You get 1 point ($1) for every mob you kill. Highest points at the end of the event wins.
Oh but wait, Hardcore is on, so if you die you are banned from the server. Your score stands even if you die though.
And you will die, expect to live for anywhere between 1 and 30 minutes LOL.
The difficulty can be adjusted and features added - will take suggestions on this.
For now PvP is off, but that could change in the future...
I plan to have an event this weekend at some point. What time(s) would work best for people if anyone is interested? Friday night? Saturday night I am probably busy but the day and Sunday would be fine.

I shall name this first event:
Nightmare in Kings Landing
And the gear set is about as good as It can be while still being a challenge. A full set of enchanted Diamond and golden carrots for food.

Server IP:
tehman.no-ip.biz

Scores to be posted below.

I will leave the server up today while I'm at work with hardcore off in case anyone wants to test it out / practice.
Wouldn't want to have an unfair advantage because me, snipes and my roommate have all gotten a bit of practice.

Yeah, I lowered the quantity of mobs a tad. That should make it a bit easier.

I'm feeling sometime around 6 for the start, and with a slight change of plans, no hardcore mode. Partially because I couldn't figure out how to make the existing map hardcore and partially because I think it will be more fun without, at least for this first time. So we will make it 6-6:30 or something. I think 30 minutes of straight, tense, stressful mob killing should be plenty. I'll take a SS of /baltop for the forums at the end time.
You do still get punished for dying, it costs $25 to re-buy the starting gear, which is 25 points.
Also I made it so you can go $25 in debt.
There is also potions available as kits, $5 per potion or $20 for the set of 5 which includes a bucket of milk (ridiculously important). Instructions are on the wall of the starting room.
I also allowed ender eyes to be picked up, just in case anyone wants to risk throwing them to get outa tight spots.
I will leave the server going from once I wake up til event time.
Let me know if you guys want a different start time.

Woot Woot! First round was quite enjoyable. Everyone had fun and got some good practice so I will be increasing the difficulty for the next round.

Also Scores added to the first post.

I probably shouldn't have tried to make any commitments on the weekend before finals, I'm super bummed I didn't get to join in. How did it go?

It was pretty awesome. I believe I was the only one that died with a minute left in the game so there may be more mobs to increase the death rates. Perhaps they will do more damage as well but that will be up to David. Each monster has an added feature to kick your ass, whether it be speed, poison, knockback, or bigger explosion. The enderman seems to be the same but that could change next time.

The mod I use to beef up the enemies is a recent release and has no config buts thats fine with me because I like it right where its at. I will increase dificulty by first increasing mob count and then reducing quality of gear. Next round I'm thinking only protection 1 vs 4 and sharpness 1-3 vs 5.

New settings are ready. Difficulty is significantly increased.
I'll be leaving the server up for practice if anyone wants to join.
Lets schedule another round of competition, Sunday night again?

So with looking at Duj's attempts to stay alive (looks like about 9 deaths in 10 minutes, poor fella) and with me and Guitar Guy testing things out I have decided to adjust the difficulty a bit, lowering the cost of gear and pots a tad and not having the amount of mobs as crazy as I had it.

So... I didn't know what i was doing spent all my money before my first death (i bought a 2nd set of gear by mistake) then when i did die i could not pick up my gear. So the only thing i could do was go down a hole with a ladder and punch 25 zombies to death (which worked but took forever) until a creeper blew me to bits. So yeah that was my first attempt at your server.
